SeriesFushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden is one of Watase Yuu's newest series and is the long awaited prequal to her most popular Fushigi Yuugi. However, in my opinion this series is even more mature and wonderful than the beloved and deep Ayashi no Ceres, which I think will take it far. Unlike Watase's other series, the characters all come from a more tragic background and the romance isn't overplayed the same way that Miaka and Tamahome's is, per say. In fact, Uruki and Takiko don't even admit their feelings for each other until volume five, unlike it being volume one for the original. It's all about the tragedy, as we know the fate and feel the emotions of each character. Unlike all the other groups of seishi, the Genbu crew is unwanted and unloved by the very people that they are trying to save. Also, they have many assasians trying to kill at least one of them. Despite that fact, Takiko and the seishi have a desire to save Hokkan as is their duty and do their best albeit the foes they must face. In fact, Rimudo being the crown prince is excessively different than the situation surrounding Hototori, per say. Everything about the Genbu storyline screams out love, dedication, loyalty and perserverance; which is why this series is by far the best that Watase has ever created.
